Earth Day 2015

Earth Day 2015 was held at the Faller House, one of the region´s grand old mansions, surrounded by gardens and parks and located in Itzimná, on 25th and 26th April. There were more than 50 exhibitors with stands that offered local, organic, artisan and organic products. On Saturday 25, the De la Hoja al Vuelo group presented the show Translocations that addresses the issue of genetic modified organisms (GMOs). Ximena Colombo and Carla del Río presented Barefoot counted stories and finally Sonidos del Origen interpreted Tonal Harmonics, Ancestral Sonorous Landscapes.

There were different recycled toys workshops for kids given by university students and Colectivo Na Lu´um. In addition, Banco de Tiempo Mérida Yucatán conducted a workshop about time banking in Merida . The exhibition That which I know on the Sea was inaugurated with organic snacks and Kaab Ha wine tasting.

Sunday 26 was opened with a Mayan ceremony held by the Maya priest Edgar Peraza. The shows that followed were Lissa Rodriguez and Ricardo Quiroz music, a parade of ecological diapers for children, Curioso Circus entertainment, Capoeira Attitude, Sonidos del Origen and Samira Mrad Bellydance.

Various environmental workshops for kids were also given, the exhibition of Centre College Maya Craft was held, and My Natural Awareness Workshop was presented. Although we had 107° F (42° C), about 4000 visitors attended, and participants and volunteers gave their best to meet the objectives of this celebration.
