Earth Day 2012

This year the celebration was held at UADY’s Central courtyard located in downtown Merida, on Sunday April 22, from 9 am to 4 pm. This time Merida Verde had a record of over 2000 attendees.

We began with a Mayan Earth gratitude ceremony. Subsequently Taller Son Jarocho played several tunes. There was a busy assistance to 10 in the morning: there was a long line at the entrance. In the corridors there was an exhibition on climate change and a display of natural, sustainable and fair trade products.

There was also a garbage separation workshop, transplant class, an organic farming course and a very fun turtle workshop given by Park Aak. In the food area there were several delicious options.

Dr. Batllori lectured about planting GMOs in Yucatán and there was another lecture on birds in Mérida, issued by the ornithologist Paul Wood.
During the afternoon The Bohémikos, Maria Moctezuma and Jazz Sensitive Mauricio Bonfiglio were presented.
